The New Line Cinema release “Weapons” coming to theaters on August 8 isn’t exactly what it seems as the new film from writer/director Zach Cregger promises a much “bigger” and “twistier” outing after his breakout effort “Barbarian” with his next genre flick that stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
After a previous teaser trailer gave us more questions than answers, the new trailer released today by New Line/WB has given us a better idea of what to expect from it. A group of school children goes missing, and the new footage seems to reveal that the children of Maybrook will eventually be the threat to this small community seen in “Weapons.”

Are these grimacing children, also jumping through windows, processed by evil supernatural entities? Zombies? Clones? Aliens? That remains to be seen but certainly feels like “Weapons” is is taking a page from beloved horror projects like “Village of The Damned” and “Children of The Corn.”
An official logline for the pic, thanks to Warner Bros.:
When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.
Cregger isn’t slowing down, as he’s prepping a new “Resident Evil” installment at Sony Pictures that has Abrams in the mix for a lead role. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is itching to reunite with the filmmaker, potentially for another juicy original, whenever he completes that zombie-survival project.
