Aston Villa boss Unai Emery admitted that Crystal Palace Palace deserved to win the FA Cup semi-final and confirmed that Marcus Rashford will be out for a number of weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury and was not in the squad.

Eberechi Eze opened the scoring with a wonder strike in the first half before Jean-Phillippe Mateta fired his penalty wide after the break.

But Sarr beat Emi Martinez from outside the box in the second half before wrapping up the game deep into stoppage time

‘He’s injured. He got injured this week and we did a test. We are going to try to test him each match but he’s injured and probably for some weeks he won’t be available,’ said Emery.

‘We have to take our experiences to get mature. We lost last year in the semi final and we lost the semi final here – we are aware of increasing our demands and we are improving a lot in two years.’

‘Now I can tell you to win a trophy is something very important and the responsibility for this club and its history is massive. Our objective is a cup and that’s something we have to work strongly for but to be consistent and get performances through the Premier League too,’ added Emery.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner hailed his Palace players after they swept aside Villa to book their place in the FA Cup final.

‘It was a really amazing performance. It’s so difficult to execute how the players did it,’ the Palace boss said.

His side will return to Wembley next month to face either Nottingham Forest or Manchester City in what will be their third FA Cup final. The Eagles have never lifted the trophy before.

And Glasner praised Ismaila Sarr after the Senegalese international scored twice and assisted another in a week where Sarr and his partner had twins.

‘He’s a great guy and an important part of the group. I love his attitude and he’s such a good fit with his spirit, physicality and his technical play and finishing,’ said Glasner.
