This summer, fans will finally get the sequel to “The Old Guard” that they’ve been waiting for over five years. Based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, the superhero feature saw many production delays at different stages. Including the SAG-AFTRA strikes and a regime change at Netflix. Additionally, Charlize Theron elaborated on the cumbersome “The Old Guard 2” post-filming process in an interview last year:
“It’s been a two-year process; one of the longest post-production movies that I’ve ever had. And I think it was for two reasons,” Theron said. “It was logistically a hard time to make movies during COVID. We had some unfortunate events like burnt down sets, and also filmed in Rome, a year where the city saw record-high temperatures. We did things while filming that I did not think were humanly possible, but it was important to us because the first film was so embraced and loved by such a loyal fan base, and we wanted to bring the same energy.”

At long last, “The Old Guard 2” will see its release this summer.
“The Old Guard 2” stars Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Vân Veronica Ngô, Uma Thurman, and Henry Golding. Victoria Mahoney is the director, and Sarah L. Walker and Greg Rucka are screenwriters. ‘Old Guard’ is based on the graphic novel series by Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. Theron, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Beth Kono, Don Granger, Dana Goldberg, Marc Evans, David Ellison, and A.J. Dix are producers. Executive producers are Rucka and Denis L. Stewart.
The heavily awaited sequel finds Theron’s Andy and her team of immortal warriors return to face a formidable enemy that threatens their existence.
