When The Mandalorian & Grogu takes over Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in 2026, it’s going to be a whole new ride in more ways than one. We already knew the new overlay replacing the current Solo: A Star Wars Story theme would visit Tatooine, Cloud City and the wreckage of the second Death Star. But at Star Wars Celebration Japan, we learned it’ll also visit the city-planet of Coruscant. Plus, it’s not just one ride: there will be multiple paths you can take, and whoever’s the Engineer will make the pick.
The ride will be rebranded in May 2026, the same day as the movie, and we now know the story. Hondo Ohnaka will tell park guests that he’s struck up a deal with the New Republic to pick up some old Imperial remnants, and that he hired a certain Mandalorian to go along for the ride for protection. Of course, though, this is Hondo, and he’s lying. So the New Republic will have something to say about the Millennium Falcon and the Razor Crest flying through these locations and stealing things.
On Smugglers Run, you’re either a pilot, a gunner or an engineer. As the ride is now, the engineer is kind of the most boring role to play but with this new ride, it will be the spot that gets to choose which planet you get to go to. Also, that’s where you’ll interact with Grogu on a small screen.
In new concept art, it was revealed that on Tatooine, you’ll cross paths with a Sandcrawler, fly through Beggars Canyon, and through the remains of a Krayt Dragon. On Cloud City, you’ll fly into all-new areas, including a loading dock where another Disney ride, Star Tours, is currently paying a visit. At the Death Star, you’ll get to do a trench run, and avoid all kind of different debris. Finally on Coruscant, you’ll get to dive down into its levels, and in a quick video shown at the event, we saw the Falcon showdown with an Imperial Cruiser.
They’re still working on the ride (mostly in the evenings when the park is closed), so we’ll surely learn more as we get closer to the ride’s new opening in 2026 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
