While Harmony Korine‘s eyeball candy crime-spree thriller “Spring Breakers” helped boost the acting career of pop star Selena Gomez (“Only Murders In The Building,” “Emilia Pérez”), we never imagined it would spawn a sequel, but here we are with news of “Spring Breakers 2.”
Sadly, in the report from Variety, the film titled “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain” won’t see the return of Korine in the director’s chair as they’ve instead tapped “Tiptoes” and “Freeway” director Matthew Bright for the pic.

We won’t be seeing any returners as a new group of actresses has been assembled, which includes Bella Thorne (“Assassination Nation”, Ariel Martin (“Zombies 2”), Grace Van Dien (“Stranger Things”), and True Whitaker (“Godfather of Harlem”).
“Spring Breakers 2” logline reads:
“A bold new ride for Gen Z. When their trip explodes out of control, they’re forced to outrun the chaos they’ve created.”
Muse Production’s Chris Hanley (“American Psycho,” “The Virgin Suicides”) and Jordan Gertner (“Bully”), who were behind the original, have reteamed for the new sequel. Capstone Studios serves as financiers, with global sales at Cannes being handled by Capture’s Ella Field, Asia Muci, Emilie Barra and Nathan Wang.
Bright became super infamous for his melodrama “Tiptoes,” which saw Gary Oldman playing the dwarf brother of Matthew McConaughey in a movie that also featured Kate Beckinsale and Peter Dinklage. The oddity of the film was that they used all sorts of visual effects and camera trickery to do an unconvincing job of having Oldman play a dwarf (that never really worked) when the part clearly called for an actor with dwarfism.

“Tiptoes” was Bright’s last effort, making a twenty-plus-year hiatus finally over, and we’re hopeful he can bring the ruckus like Korine did in the original A24 release.
