“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has another name on it cast sheet, and it’s someone from one of the buzziest TV shows of the past few years: FX’s “The Bear.”
So who is it? Obviously not Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who stars in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” this summer. Instead, it’s another member of the show’s supporting cast. Deadline reports that Liza Colón-Zayas joins Tom Holland and Sadie Sink in the upcoming superhero film. It’s not confirmed yet, but Zendaya and Jacob Batalon should join Colón-Zayas as new cast additions, returning as MJ and Ned, respectively.

Who Colón-Zayas plays in “Brand New Day” remains a mystery for now, but the same could be said for almost everything about the movie. Sink’s role also hasn’t been confirmed yet, and that’ll likely remain so until after “Brand New Day” starts filming later this year. Here’s what Spidey fans do know at the moment: Destin Daniel Cretton directs a script by Erik Summers and Chris McKenna, with Amy Pascal and Marvel head Kevin Feige producing. “Brand New Day” hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
Colón-Zayas won an Emmy last year for her role in “The Bear” as cook Tina Marrero, making her the first Latina to win Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. She’s also received nods for that role at the Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and the Golden Globes. As for film, recent roles for the actress include “Cat Person” and “IF.”
Is “Brand New Day” the most anticipated upcoming film in the MCU? With two new “Avengers” movies on the way, perhaps not. But all three Holland-led “Spider-Man” films have been massive hits for Marvel, with 2020’s “No Way Home” the most successful, taking in over $1.9 billion at the global box office. The last standalone “Spider-Man” film saw Holland’s Peter Parker at a pivotal point in his superhero journey, having made the ultimate sacrifice by asking Doctor Strange to seal a multiversal rift that makes everyone forget who is in the process. “Brand New Day” will follow Parker in his new solitary life, still fighting crime, but separated from MJ, Ned, and the other Marvel heroes.
As noted earlier, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits theaters on July 31, 2026, in between “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in the MCU’s Phase 6. Stay tuned for more casting news for the upcoming pic.
