Meghann Fahy vs. Julianne Moore's Cult

Meghann Fahy is continuing to have her moment. The actress, who earned rave reviews leading “Drop” after having a breakout turn in “The White Lotus” Season 2, leads Netflix limited series “Sirens.” And it seems like Fahy is returning to the genre of elite satire as the trailer teases a possible Goop-esque cult run by none other than Julianne Moore.

The official synopsis reads: “Devon (Fahy) thinks her sister Simone (Milly Alcock) has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell (Moore). Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention. But she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be. Told over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells’ lavish beach estate, ‘Sirens’ is an incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class.”

Kevin Bacon, Glenn Howerton, Bill Camp, and Felix Solis co-star. “Sirens” is the latest series from “Maid” creator Molly Smith Metzler, who now has an overall deal with Netflix. The show is adapted from Metzler’s play “Elemeno Pea,” which she wrote during her time at Juilliard.

Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Dani Gorin are executive producing for LuckyChap, along with Colin McKenna and director Nicole Kassell, who helmed the first two episodes. Metzler is the showrunner and also executive produces through her Quiet Coyote banner. LuckyChap also produced Metzler’s 2022 series “Maid” which starred Margaret Qualley, Nick Robinson, and Andie MacDowell. The show landed among Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows for viewership.

Metzler previously was a writer on “Shameless,” and told IndieWire that being a playwright is very “similar” to TV writing as both processes are “very, very collaborative.”

Metzler said, “When you’re playwriting you’re usually with the whole team, with someone designing the set and the director and actors and dramaturg. You’re all making this thing together, but the person has to speak for the vision of the show is usually the playwright and you just are very empowered. Your relationship with your director is a true partnership. And is a writer’s medium, playwriting. That’s what’s similar about it is TV is a writer’s medium.”

“Sirens” premieres May 22 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
