“Sinners” is quickly becoming a big success for both Warner Bros. and writer/director Ryan Coolger, with all sorts of chatter about it turning into a potential franchise. However, with that in mind, nothing has been announced despite some post-credit teases, but star Michael B. Jordan is game to explore the twins’ (Smoke and Stack) time in Al Capone‘s Chicago.
Total Film, during a press junket, was able to ask Jordan if he would be interested in exploring his characters’ backstory as they are alluded to have done some rough stuff for the Chicago criminal snydicates before ripping them off by stealing a bunch of cash and booze to start their Juke Joint back home in the Mississippi Delta, leading to the events of the film.

“You know, I’m always, I’ll be up for it. Not saying [Ryan Coolger] wouldn’t, but I’m just saying, I would be up for it,” Jordan said of the prospect of tackling the twins’ criminal adventures up North. Adding, “[Ryan] calls the shots.”
Coogler jokingly disagrees while laughing that he “calls the shots,” but does embrace the compliments of folks wanting to see more of his characters. “For me, my favorite movies…it feels like a world was happening before, and a world is going to happen after. So, that’s the best compliment somebody can say.”
Audiences have spoken, as “Sinners” has already earned an impressive $161.6 million globally after another successful weekend at the domestic box office, adding another $45 million to their haul.
So, in theory, Coolger could make some follow-ups or more projects, but we’ll have to be patient to see if that is something the in-demand filmmaker is ultimately interested in when he could easily pivot to another original idea entirely and has “Black Panther 3” on deck at Marvel Studios with Denzel Washington outing his participation in a mystery role.
No matter how it shakes out, whatever new idea Coogler wants to do, there will be plenty of studio suitors willing to sink their teeth into it, given this fevered reaction to “Sinners.”
