Cleaning fees have long been part of the short-term rental experience, but AirDNA found they vary greatly from one country to another, and even by city.
Analyzing data from Airbnb and Vrbo, AirDNA found that 89% of listings in the U.S. charge cleaning fees, followed by Aruba (88.6%), and Curacao (86.7%) as of April 1, 2025.
Among the countries with the lowest percentage of cleaning fees on short-term rental listings, were Kazakhstan (15.3%), Sri Lanka (17.9%), and Madagascar (20.5%). (See charts below.)
Experts say that the fees vary because of differing hospitality standards, cultures, and the nature of competition.
Regional Trends on Cleaning Fees
