Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has said that Matthijs de Ligt will be assessed following his injury against Brentford in the Premier League.
The Red Devils suffered a 4-3 loss to the Bees on the road on Sunday. De Ligt was picked to start against the west London outfit.
However, the Dutchman was substituted in the 35th minute. He could not carry on after being injured in a collision with Bryan Mbeumo.
Speaking after the game, Amorim said: “I don’t know, we will check.”I hope it is [only] a small issue because I am concerned, not only about this game [against Athletic Club, but about the squad for the next year.”
United have a 3-0 lead from the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao. They host the La Liga outfit in the second leg on Thursday.
De Ligt could be absent after the setback in west London. Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelof will most likely start in the back three.
