Rodgers was thrilled with his team’s display but left raging at the late tackle from the Dons man.

Brendan Rodgers hit out at Pape Gueye X-rated challenge that’s left Reo Hatate facing Scottish Cup Final sweat.

The Celtic midfielder limped off in the thumping 5-1 win in the Hampden dress rehearsal at Aberdeen.

Rodgers was thrilled with the display – but left raging at the late tackle from the Dons man.

He said: “It was a poor challenge. The guy had lost his head a bit at the end.

“He left his leg there and the player came right through him. We will see how he is.”

Rodgers made EIGHT changes to his side from last weekend but the second string Hoops sent out a major Hampden warning by running amok in the north east.

Maik Nawrocki and Johnny Kenny notched their first goals for the club, with Yang, Luke McCowan and Adam Idah also on target as Celts made it 19 goals against the Dons in five games this season.

Jimmy Thelin’s side’s hopes of securing third were sunk – but the Reds are guaranteed European football next term after St Mirren’s draw with Hibs.

Rodgers is now gearing up for Trophy Day against the Buddies and finding the campaign with a flourish before heading to Hampden.

He said: “It was all such a high level.

“There were so many good performances but collectively as a team we were outstanding.

“We have a clear structure and the players know their roles when they came in.

“We were really good throughout the team – from defence, to midfield and attack.

“The front three created a lot and all across the team it was a joy to watch. Rodgers was delighted with Irish kid Kenny getting off the mark – while James Forrest was also on fire.

He said: “We have seen that from Johnny since he’s come back in and trained.

“He’s an outstanding finisher and his run for the goal was good – and it’s a fantastic header.

“You can see the joy everyone has for him and that was a dream moment for Johnny.”

Forrest is looking to get on the scoresheet for the 16th season on the spin and the manager said: “James was so good for 90 minutes. You see his speed and how creative he was.

“He was fantastic and just needs that bit of luck to get that goal.

“Is he on penalties at the weekend? We shall see! It will be a tough game against St Mirren but we want to finish strong and celebrate.”

Forrest is chasing the goal but insisted the main target is more silverware.

He said: “It was really good. The manager made a lot of changes but the team was fresh.

“The boys had a chance to show what they can do and it was a strong performance.

“The depth of the squad has been a big reason for the success this season.

“I had a few chances and you can see everyone wants me to score. But it’s about helping the team in any way I can.

“If I can score in the last two games, then great. If not, then it isn’t to be.”

Frontman Kenny admitted it was a dream come true to get his first start and first goal for Celts. He said: “It was brilliant.

“As a young lad, you dream of playing and scoring for this club.

“The gaffer told me to be calm and take my opportunity. I’ve been watching the lads since coming back from January and it’s great to be in the team with them.”
