James Gray’s “Paper Tiger” is ready to hit the Cannes market, albeit with two new faces on the cast sheet.
A new press release announces that Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller will join Adam Driver as co-stars in Gray’s next feature. The duo replaces Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, who had to leave the project due to other commitments. Shooting gets underway for “Paper Tiger” in New Jersey next month, with Gray penning the script on top of directing.

A gritty crime drama, “Paper Tiger” follows two brothers whose pursuit of the American Dream entangles them in an ever-more dangerous world of corruption and violence. After the Russian “Mafiya” gets involved, a once iron-clad bond begins to fray, and an unthinkable betrayal becomes all too possible.
Johansson’s 2025 gets much busier in a few days, as Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme” and her directorial debut, “Eleanor The Great,” will be at the Cannes Film Festival. Anderson’s latest then hits theaters on May 30. Johansson then stars in Universal’s “Jurassic World: Rebirth” on July 2.
Teller recently starred in Apple TV+’s “The Gorge” and has Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” on the horizon, as well as A24’s “Eternity.” Along with “Paper Tiger,” Teller shoots Greg Kwedar’s “Possom Song” and Paul Downs Calaizzo’s “Winter Games” next.
Expect “Paper Tiger” to have a splashy world premiere at the film festival next year.
