Pamela Anderson and Dakota Fanning Cast in Sally Potter's 'Alma'

Pamela Anderson‘s comeback tour continues: After leading “The Last Showgirl” and flexing her comedy chops in the upcoming “Naked Gun,” Anderson will be starring in Sally Potter‘s latest indie film, “Alma.”

Anderson, Dakota Fanning, and Lindsay Duncan star in the family drama, centered on an extended family gathered to scatter the ashes of their mother. But her presence still haunts them and threatens to unravel buried secrets. Variety first reported the news. “Babygirl” breakout Esther McGregor, Esmé Creed-Miles, and Earl Cave co-star.

“Looking for the alchemical mix of great screen presences to bring a script into vivid life can feel like a treasure hunt,” Potter said in a press statement. “Three of the cinematic jewels now set to be at the centre of the cast of ‘Alma’ are Pamela Anderson, Dakota Fanning and Lindsay Duncan, three brilliant actors I have wanted to work with for some time. Their remarkable individual qualities will combine with, amongst others, Arinzé Kene and three exciting young actors: Esther McGregor, Esmé Creed-Miles and Earl Cave.”

The film is currently in pre-production and will start shooting on location in England in September. Bankside Films have boarded “Alma” for worldwide sales ahead of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Potter’s regular collaborator, Christopher Sheppard of Adventure Pictures, produces “Alma” alongside Rebecca O’Brien of Sixteen Films. Co-producers include Les Films d’Antoine, under the direction of Antoine Simkine, in France, and Komplizen, led by producers Jona Dornbach, Janine Jackowski, and Maren Ade in Germany. Stephen Kelliher executive produces for Bankside Films.

“It’s an honor to work with Sally on this brilliantly clever, funny and poignant story of a family in conflict at the most sensitive of times,” Bankside managing director Kelliher said. “Sally’s script is endlessly entertaining, and the cast she has drawn to the project speaks for itself. We can’t wait for audiences to enjoy it.”

Potter previously worked with Dakota Fanning’s sister Elle Fanning on the films “Ginger & Rosa” (2012) and “The Roads Not Taken” (2020). Academy Award nominee Potter has written and directed nine films in total, starting with “The Gold Diggers” in 1983, followed by her 1992 Virginia Woolf adaptation “Orlando.” “Alma” is her first film in five years since “The Roads Not Taken.”
