For those of us who have grown up but are still young at heart, there’s nothing like letting your inner child run free for a weekend getaway—and booking a stay in a tree house is sometimes just the thing the heart calls for.

This Airbnb, known as Nature’s Nook, is a modern tree house built around a living oak tree. It’s nestled in the heart of Georgia’s picturesque wine country near Dahlonega, which boasts a storied history as one of the country’s first gold rush towns.

The tree house has an expansive, elevated deck where guests can gather to enjoy the sounds and sights of the leafy canopy of mature trees above and the massive ferns below.

The exterior of the building is painted a moody shade of teal and has a slanted roof which helps redirect rainwater to the base of the oak tree. The siding of the house is made of cypress and was treated using the shou sugi ban technique, a Japanese method of charring wood with a torch that makes it more resilient to fire and pests.

Nature’s Nook has enough space to sleep up to four people, thanks to stacked bunk beds. There’s also a queen-sized bed below the ladder-accessible mini-loft, and it has an impressive view over the forest below. The fully appointed bathroom has a glass-tiled rainfall shower and some strategically placed windows that let natural light in without compromising on privacy.

There’s a sitting area with a couple of comfy chairs positioned towards a huge window that perfectly frames the forest outside. Nearby, the cozy kitchenette has custom-built cabinets and a place for making coffee and tea.

In addition to the deck out front, there’s another outdoor balcony that can be accessed on the other side of the tree house.

Nature’s Nook is just one of three other secluded vacation rentals on this large, seven-acre property. There is a free, on-site lending library, a fire pit, as well as a short hiking trail. But there’s plenty to do nearby as well. You could explore nearby downtown Dahlonega, learn about the town’s prospecting past at the Dahlonega Gold Museum, or hike Amicalola Falls State Park and see its 729-foot-tall waterfall. Vino connoisseurs will no doubt enjoy exploring Georgia’s wine country—consider joining a winery tour to get a little taste of everything that the region has to offer.

Nightly rates start at $255 per night.
