Back at the Bowl' Concert Movie to Hit Theaters this Summer

DJ-music producer Kygo’s sold-out concert from the Kygo World Tour at the Hollywood Bowl is set for a worldwide theatrical release in summer 2025. “Kygo: Back at the Bowl” will be distributed by CJ 4DPlex.

The concert film is directed by Grammy-nominated and Emmy award-winning filmmaker Sam Wrench (“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” “Billie Eilish Live at the O2”), featuring remixed and remastered sound, visuals captured in 8K with 18 cameras and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.

“This film allows the audience to experience the performance like never before — feeling as though they’re seated inside the Hollywood Bowl, interacting with the music and artists in an entirely new way. It’s a game-changer for how music and film intersect, and how audiences engage with them,” said Wrench.

Filmed with CJ 4DPlex’s ScreenX in mind, the film will also feature extended imagery for the 270-degree panoramic view, placing audiences in the front row at the show.  It will also be available across multisensory 4DX premium format as well as standard 2D screenings worldwide.

“We are excited to partner with globally influential artist Kygo to bring his musical performance to audiences all around the world,” said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPlex. “Collaborating with his team at Palm Tree Pictures and Next of Kin, we have created a visually stunning concert film for ScreenX, also available in 4DX and 2D formats in theaters everywhere.”

The stop at the Hollywood Bowl was part of Kygo’s 2024-2025 world tour, which sold over 500,000 tickets. The concert sees Kygo and featured artists perform hits from across his career including “Higher Love” and “It Ain’t Me”, and includes guest appearances from multi-Grammy winner Ryan Tedder for the first-ever live performance of their song “Chasing Paradise”; Ava Max, who performs alongside Kygo for a live performance of their track “Whatever” off Kygo’s new self-titled album; Zara Larsson performing their song “Like It Is”; as well as Calum Scott, Justin Jesso, Parson James and more.

Production companies include Wrench’s Next of Kin Content, an EverWonder Studio company; CJ  4DPlex; and Palm Tree Pictures, Kygo and longtime manager Myles Shear’s new film and TV production arm. Executive producers include Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, Myles Shear, Mike Hoerner, and Sarah Lieberman for Palm Tree Pictures; Mike Antinoro for Next of Kin; and Don Savant, Jun Bang, Greg Drobnick and Paul Hyo Kim for CJ 4DPlex.

“Dance music’s always been at the forefront of culture and ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation. We’re excited to be part of something that is pushing storytelling forward — using cutting-edge tech to make fans feel like they’re right there at the Hollywood Bowl watching Kygo perform,” said Shear.

ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection cinema technology with an immersive 270-degree panoramic viewing experience. By extending select scenes onto the left and right walls of the auditorium, ScreenX surrounds the audience with story-enhancing visuals. There are currently over 370 ScreenX auditoriums around the world in 40 countries.

4DX utilizes motion, vibration, wind, lightning, scents and other special effects that enhance the visuals on-screen. Each 4DX auditorium incorporates motion-based seating synchronized with more than 21 different effects and optimized by a team of editors. There are over 790 4DX auditoriums around the world, spanning over 70 countries.
