Social media users thoroughly rebuked Fox News host Jesse Watters on Monday for his choice of “the most beautiful word,” as he unwittingly named more than one during a discussion on “The Five” — and both refer to policies or entities that have ruined untold lives.
The moment came mere hours after President Donald Trump’s administration announced that the U.S. and China had reached a temporary tariffs deal, and saw Watters gloat over his co-host Harold Ford Jr., who previously said on the air that the trade war “isn’t working.”
“I was watching [Treasury Secretary] Scott Bessent announce this deal,” Watters said Monday. “Not because it’s a great deal, which, it is a great deal, I just don’t wanna hear this guy [Ford Jr.] talk about tariffs anymore. I’m sick of it. He’s been wrong this whole time.”
“Trump says this is the most beautiful word in the world,” he continued. “I like ‘deportation.’ I like ‘DOGE.’”
As Watters referenced, Trump has previously argued that “tariff” is “the most beautiful word in the dictionary.” Trump sent global markets into upheaval last month when he announced steep tariffs on all U.S. imports.
The Fox News host’s chosen words, however, bring to mind other actions the administration has taken. Trump launched mass deportations shortly after assuming office in January, sending hundreds of migrants to a notorious prison in El Salvador — with the Justice Department admitting at least one, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was included due to an “administrative error.” The administration has since defied a U.S. Supreme Court order to facilitate his return.
“Yeah, it was great when Nazis deported Romani and Jewish people to concentration camps, right, Jessie?” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, with another commenting: “if that’s the most beautiful word in the world, i’m afraid to find out the worst word for him.”
A third user argued rather directly: “Jesse Watters is a special kind of dumb.”
Watters also praised the so-called Department of Government Efficiency that Trump formed with the stated aim of cutting public spending. DOGE has gutted key public sectors, including health and education. However, Watters regularly lauded the thousands of resulting layoffs on his show, until February and March — when they hit close to home.
Watters previously defended the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, who was tapped in January to spearhead DOGE, by chronicling his dating history on television. Watters also recently gave his viewers ground rules for what constitutes a “real man.”
“Does this person have both oars in the water?” one X user wrote Monday about Watters.
While most users currently trouncing him have keyed in on the real-life impact of both DOGE and deportations, others are plainly baffled that, when it came to “the most beautiful word,” Watters couldn’t actually choose one — as his self-imposed prompt suggested.
“That’s two words,” one user noted.
