Jackie Chan Action Thriller 'The Shadow's Edge' Racks Up Global Sales

Golden Network Asia is seeing strong international buyer interest for Jackie Chan‘s latest action thriller “The Shadow’s Edge,” with the Hong Kong-based sales agent having already secured distribution deals across multiple territories for the film currently in post-production.

The Larry Yang-directed heist thriller is being sold at the Cannes market. It wrapped principal photography in Macau after beginning production last October, and has been acquired by Plaion Pictures for Germany, SPI Intl. for Eastern Europe and ATV for Turkey, among other key markets.

Additional territories locked include Great Movies (Latin America), the Klockworx (Japan), NK Contents (South Korea), Shanghai Pictures (Malaysia), Prima Cinema (Indonesia), Shaw Renters (Singapore), Eagle Intl. (Taiwan), Abnormal Studios (Cambodia & Myanmar) and Izagur Media (Mongolia). According to Golden Network, a deal for CIS and Ukraine is finalized, while negotiations for Benelux and other territories remain ongoing.

The film marks the second collaboration between Chan and director Yang, following their previous project “Ride On.” In “The Shadow’s Edge,” Chan portrays a retired surveillance expert from the Macau police service who returns to action to help a team of elite young detectives take down a sophisticated criminal gang.

The cast includes veteran actor Tony Leung Ka Fai, reuniting with Chan nearly two decades after their previous collaboration in “The Myth.” Rising stars Zhang Zifeng (“Sister,” “The Volunteers”), Ci Sha (“Creation of the Gods”) and Jun (Wen Junhui) from K-pop group Seventeen, round out the ensemble.

Produced by Victoria Hon, “The Shadow’s Edge” is a joint presentation by iQIYI Pictures (Beijing), Tao Tickets, Hairun Pictures and China ChenXiang. The film is scheduled to premiere in Chinese cinemas later this year.
