Hamas says it has released Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander and handed him over to the Red Cross.
Israel has confirmed Alexander’s release.
21-year-old Alexander was serving in a military unit on the Gaza border when he was captured during the Hamas militants’ attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023.
Hamas said it was releasing Alexander as a goodwill gesture to try to revive talks on ending the Israel-Hamas war, now in its 19th month.
The release comes ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East which is due to start on Tuesday.
