Delta’s Stalled Growth, Mandarin Oriental’s Refresh and Short-Term Rental Emissions

Delta Air Lines has withheld its full-year outlook for 2025, citing economic uncertainty, writes Airlines Reporter Meghna Maharishi.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in an earnings call on Wednesday that the carrier’s growth has largely stalled. The company released a regulatory filing last month stating that it expected slower growth in the first quarter due to declining consumer confidence and corporate demand.

While Delta saw an increase in international and premium revenue during the first quarter, President Glen Hauenstein said the carrier has seen a “significant drop-off” in bookings from Canada.

Next, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will unveil a significant brand refresh, the first major update to its visual identity since 1985, writes Senior Hospitality Editor Sean O’Neill.

Mandarin Oriental told Skift it will roll out modernized branding, a new mobile app, and changes to its loyalty program as it looks to more than double its global portfolio by 2033. O’Neill adds the luxury hotel operator plans to launch more storytelling content. 

Finally, many hotels, airlines, and tour operators have started to measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions. But figuring out the carbon footprint of the short-term rental industry remains a challenge, writes Climate Reporter Darin Graham.

Graham notes the sector’s largest players don’t account for emissions when guests stay in homes listed on their platforms. That’s despite their stated aim to reduce emissions. One property owner told Skift she’s open to tracking emissions even if the process seems daunting, but another said platforms don’t require her to report anything. 

Airbnb said it runs programs in four countries to help hosts reduce emissions, which include giving hosts assessments to test their properties’ energy use.
