“Can You Keep a Secret,” the upcoming comedy series led by British TV icon Dawn French, is set to premiere on Paramount+ in the U.S.
The series — starring 7-time BAFTA TV nominee French (“French & Saunders,” “The Vicar of Dibley”) alongside Mark Heap (“Friday Night Dinner”). Craig Roberts (“Submarine”) and Mandip Gill (“Doctor Who”) — recently wrapped filming.
“Can You Keep a Secret?” sees French play domineering granny Debbie Fendon, a woman who will stop at nothing to protect her family. However, as the synopsis goes, the person they most need protecting from is her. When her hermit-like husband, William (Mark Heap), unexpectedly dies, Fendon makes an outlandish decision that will put the family under more pressure than ever before. Because William isn’t actually dead – he just got mistakenly declared it and has been living in the loft while they wait for the life insurance to pay out.
This news comes as a bit of a shock to their easily frazzled son, Harold (Roberts), whose wife, Neha (Gill), works for the local police. And just as they come to terms with the baffling behavior of these geriatric toddlers, Debbie reveals another secret she’s been keeping up her sleeve. And this one could bring the whole family down.
The series is a Big Talk Studios, Mayhay Studios and CBS Studios co-production. Kenton Allen, Simon Mayhew-Archer, French and Toby Welch will serve as executive producers with Simon Hynd directing.
Written and created by Mayhew-Archer, the series will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the U.K. and Paramount+ in the United States. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
