Benn parked the simmering feud and wished for a speedy recovery after a fight for the ages
Bruised and battered Chris Eubank Jr was taken away by ambulance in the immediate aftermath of his epic victory over fierce rival Conor Benn.
And the vanquished opponent claims Eubank Jr hastily exited the Tottenham Stadium was because of a serious injury suffered during 12 gruelling rounds which sparked a nostalgia trip for fans who watched their fathers do battle with the winner remarkably reuniting with his dad before the first bell.
Benn parked the simmering boxing feud and wished for a speedy recovery after stating: “I’ve heard he’s got a broken jaw”.
Eubank Jr was told he must head to hospital by the onsite doctor with the 35-year-old enduring a draining weight cut to make the middleweight limit.
But he found a reserve of energy in the closing exchanges to win a deserved decision – with all three judges scoring it 116-112.
Eubank spoke in the ring before he was led away and praised Benn for his bravery and bringing a new side out in him.
He said: “I didn’t expect Conor to be the guy to [bring it out of me]. I didn’t know he had that in him, I thought I would break him early.
“I underestimated him, I didn’t prepare for a fight like that.”
And Benn was magnanimous in defeat, however, he wants a chance to avenge his loss.
The 28-year-old said: “I’m not going to say I deserved to win it, I have to watch it back.
“Maybe I stayed on the ropes a bit too long. Chris is a good fighter.
“All the fighting talk is fighting talk. I’d love the rematch.”
