Hull City are conducting an investigation after a video surfaced online appearing to show captain Lewie Coyle in a street fight. The clip captures Coyle and his sibling Rocco, who also plays for the Tigers, seemingly in an altercation in the city centre.

Coyle was instrumental this season, featuring prominently for Hull City as they staved off relegation on the ultimate day of their Championship campaign. Their 1-1 stalemate against Portsmouth last Saturday ensured that Ruben Selles’ men remained in the division, while Cardiff City, Plymouth Argyle, and Luton Town succumbed to demotion following the season’s cliffhanger conclusion.

Hull experienced a tumultuous term, parting ways with former manager Tim Walter – despite only 17 games at the helm. Yet the euphoria of staying up was quickly overshadowed by the need to address concerns raised by the footage of Coyle.

Hull City said in a statement: “Hull City is aware of a video currently circulating on social media and has launched an investigation into the matter. The club will refrain from making further comment until the investigation has been concluded.”

The statement was given to BBC Humberside Sport, who said: “We’ve received this statement from Hull City after a video emerged on social media last night which appears to show club captain, Lewie Coyle and brother Rocco, who also plays for the club, involved in an incident in Hull city centre.”

The Sun reports that both Coyles were present during a chaotic encounter outside the local Empress pub around 8pm. Allegedly, the scene escalated to such an extent that nearby traffic was disrupted as the altercation expanded onto the street.

Lewie Coyle, the older sibling and team leader, was seen being cautiously led back by his brother across the street, creating distance from the fray. Subsequent footage revealed the aftermath of the supposed fight, featuring an individual sporting injuries.

It is suggested the brawl initiated within the pub before erupting into public view. Earlier in the day, reflecting on a challenging season for Hull, captain Coyle confessed to ITV: “It’s been a difficult year for us this year. We’ve been at the other end of the table, which is not where we want to be. We’ve suffered a lot this year, at times.

“A lot of it is down to our own doing. We have to take responsibility as players, we’ve not been good enough at times. I know exactly what that means to everyone inside that dressing room, and I couldn’t be more proud of the lads.

“When our backs were against the wall and the chips were down, I found out a lot about me and my teammates, and it’s made me very proud.”
