Bring Her Back’s Directors Just Can’t Wait to Traumatize Audiences

A crop of Bring Her Back's poster.

It could be just a coincidence, or it could be a response to that genuinely alarming Weapons trailer that dropped earlier this week, but the creators of Bring Her Back are here in a new clip to tease audiences about their “harrowing, traumatic, and fun” film.

Which 2025 horror movie will give you the most nightmares? It’s too early to tell, but this latest from the directors of Talk to Me definitely looks like a strong contender.

Directors and twin brothers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou (Danny also co-wrote with Bill Hinzman) have an infectious excitement about Bring Her Back, especially its star Sally Hawkins—whose acclaimed and diverse filmography (The Shape of Water, Paddington) definitely doesn’t have “creepy foster mom trying to raise the dead” in it… yet.

“We wanted to do something different from Talk to Me,” Michael Philippou explains in the clip. “It’s still a horror film, but it’s more psychological.”

Danny chimes in to call it a “psycho-biddy film,” which is excellent news for all the hagsploitation fans out there. (If that doesn’t ring any bells, stop what you’re doing and watch What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? right now.)

The rest of the cast includes Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, and Mischa Heywood—as well as, the Philippou brothers promise, frights, emotional moments, and “some fucked-up shit.” It hits theaters May 30.
