Beyoncé kicked off her highly anticipated “Cowboy Carter” tour at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium tonight, giving the first look at her 32-date trek spanning nine global cities.
The show is the first taste of the “Cowboy Carter” tour experience, coming a little over a year since she released her eighth album. “Cowboy Carter” was a sprawling opus highlighting the Black roots of country music, featuring renditions of “Blackbird” and “Jolene” and collaborations with Miley Cyrus, Shaboozey, Post Malone and more.
Beyoncé announced the tour in February after delaying it due to the Los Angeles wildfires. She first gave “Cowboy Carter” its live debut with a performance on Christmas Day during the Texans-Ravens NFL Game. The halftime show featured a medley of songs from the record, featuring cameos from Shaboozey and Malone, and continued on to garner 27 million U.S. viewers on Netflix.
She initially dropped “Cowboy Carter” in March 2024, just a month after she surprise-released the two-fer singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” The former was a certified hit, debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs tally and making her the first Black woman to reach that position. Earlier this year, she won three of her 11 Grammy nominations for the project including the coveted album of the year, marking her first win in the category.
“I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years,” said Beyoncé during her acceptance speech. “I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, for all of the hard work.”
