The 10 Best Coffee Shops in the World, Ranked

Over a billion people drink coffee every single day. But if you’re one of those people who simply has to measure out the perfect number of beans, set the grind exactly right, and heat the water (filtered, obviously) to a proper temperature, then it’s time for you to plot out a trip to one of the best coffee shops in the world. 

In late February, The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops, an organization that ranks cafés around the world, unveiled its list of the top caffeine hot spots on the planet. It used data from public votes (they accounted for 30 percent of the score) and insights from an expert panel (accounting for 70 percent of the score) to create its roundup.

After crunching all the numbers, it named Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters, which has a flagship shop in the Chippendale neighborhood of Sydney, the best in the world. 

“We’re stoked to be putting Australian coffee on the world stage, alongside some incredible company,” the coffee shop said blog post about their win. The company also gave a shout-out to fellow Aussie coffee shops who made the list such as Proud Mary in Melbourne and Coffee Anthology in Brisbane who both also made the top 10. 

“Our whole team puts in an immense amount of effort to make the best coffee possible, so we’re absolutely delighted to be awarded this incredible recognition,” Jody Leslie, the company’s general manager, said.

But Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters is much more than just a place to grab a flat white. The shop also tries to foster a genuine connection between its baristas and customers and make the world of coffee (literally) more transparent with its Island Brew Bar, which lets guests ask questions about the brewing process. There’s also a glass-walled roasting room so that you can get a look at how the magic really happens. In addition to its Chippendale location, Toby’s has outposts all around the world, including Singapore, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and all over Australia. 

However, Toby’s wasn’t the only coffee shop to make the list. You can find places all around the globe that offer expertly made java, great customer service, and tasty pastries. Other businesses that made the cut include:
