Cannes 2025 Emerging Filmmaker Showcase Set

The American Pavilion has announced the 2025 Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at Cannes, sponsored once again by Gold House. AmPav is the epicenter for American hospitality on the Croisette, bringing U.S. filmmakers together at the world’s most influential film festival. Ryan Coogler and Jeff Nichols are alums of the American Pavilion‘s Cannes student program.

Will a filmmaker at the 2025 showcase follow in their footsteps? This year’s lineup features 25 official selection films in three showcases: Student Short Films & Documentaries, Emerging Filmmaker Short Films & Documentaries, and the Emerging Filmmaker LGBTQ+ showcase films. Check out the full lineup below.

Films will screen at The American Pavilion on Tuesday, May 20 (LGBTQ+ Showcase) and Wednesday, May 21 (Student and Emerging Showcase).

Emerging showcase category winners will be chosen by a jury that includes agents, managers, producers, industry members, and a team from Gold House, the leading cultural nonprofit that brings together and invests in Asian Pacific creators and companies. Gold House will again present the inaugural Cultural Impact award to a filmmaker across the showcase’s categories whose work exemplifies excellence in multicultural narratives or underrepresented perspectives.

“The Emerging Filmmaker Showcase continues to highlight a strong slate of films and filmmakers highlighting diversity, equity, and inclusion. I’m excited we are partnered with Gold House for a second year as they present their Cultural Impact Award,” said Monika Skerbelis, director of the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase.

“It’s more important than ever to champion bold, diverse storytellers. We’re proud to return and celebrate the incredible talent shaping the future of film. This year, we’re also thrilled to support Lloyd Lee Choi’s feature debut, ‘Lucky Lu,’ at Directors’ Fortnight — building on our investment in the film and our production of his earlier short through our Film Accelerator. It’s all part of the ecosystem we’re growing through the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase to uplift the next generation of independent creators,” said Christine Yi, General Manager of Gold House Futures and General Partner of Gold House’s Creative Equity Fund. “Watching the showcase’s films these past few weeks has been moving and inspiring, and we look forward to honoring one extraordinary creator with the Gold House Cultural Impact Award.”

The Showcase features 16 female directors with more than half of the films either directed or co-directed by women. This year’s themes include short films and documentaries dealing with disability, deafness, dementia, immigration, media and identity, transitions, societal roles, and self-discovery. Celebrated artists associated with films this year include Rainn Wilson and Jason Reitman as producers and actors Flora Jiwu Hwang (“Beef”), Lisa Emery (“Ozark,” “The Walking Dead”), Susan Louise O’Conor (“Orange is the New Black”; “Euphoria”), Ian Oh (“Beef”) and Clark Carmichael (“House of Cards,” “The Irishman”).

The 9 Student Showcase Films come from AFI Conservatory, Chapman University, Florida State University, Oaks Christian School, Savannah College of Art & Design, Stanford University, University of California, Los Angeles, and University of Southern California.

Three films this year are directed by alumni students who participated in The American Pavilion Cannes Student Program in the past: “Ada and the Doc” directed by Matison LeBlanc (2024 & 2025), “Miriam” directed by Josie Andrews (2017), “Happy New Year, Ms. Luna,” directed by Andy “Celeste” Diep (2015).

AmPav’s Emerging Filmmaker Showcase, now in its 28th edition, allows upcoming filmmakers to have their works seen by Cannes Festival and Film Market attendees. A live Q&A will follow all screenings with filmmakers in attendance.

Prize packages are sponsored by: Gold House, Write Brothers Movie Magic Screenwriter, International Documentary Association, Screening Services Group, Simple DCP, Michael Wiese Productions Books, Cinelytic, and ESE Film Workshops Online.
