American Airlines Has a New Route to Puerto Escondido

  • American Airlines will begin new service to Puerto Escondido, Mexico, in December.
  • The new destination will be American’s 30th destination in Mexico.
  •  Puerto Escondido was recently recognized as a trending destination in 2025 by Airbnb.

Exploring new regions of Mexico just got easier.

American Airlines announced its 30th destination to the North American nation: Puerto Escondido. Located at the southern tip of the Oaxaca region, Puerto Escondido is known for beautiful beaches, water activities such as sport fishing and whale watching, as well as unique hiking trails.

The new route will operate from American’s hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) starting on Dec. 3, 2025. The service will operate year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tickets for the new route will go on sale April 14 through American’s website and partners.

Airbnb recently listed Puerto Escondido as one of its top trending destinations of 2025, citing the surfing and beautiful escape it provides travelers. In fact, the home rental site called the region a “beach paradise” and has seen a surge of interest for rentals.

Puerto Escondido is also home to scenic trails and hiking opportunities, including paved walkways, forest trails, and even beachfront hikes. The Punta Zicatela Tour, a five-mile, easy rated path, is the highest ranked hike in the region, according to AllTrails.

In addition to Puerto Escondido, American Airlines says it flies the most flights of any airline between the United States and Mexico.

“Mexico is the most popular international destination for travel from the U.S., and American continues to grow its network to the country,” American Airlines shared in a statement to Travel + Leisure.

The airline operates service to popular Mexico destinations including Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta.
