Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo's Nostalgic Comedy 'Vírgenes' Gets First Trailer

The international trailer for “Vírgenes,” the highly anticipated new comedy from Spanish box office hitmaker Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo (“Señor, Dame Paciencia”), has just been released, giving audiences a vibrant taste of the film that promises to be one of the funniest and most heartfelt releases of the year.

Set in the 1960s, “Vírgenes” is a nostalgic tribute to the tourism boom on Spain’s Costa del Sol. The film premiered in the official non-competitive section of the Málaga Film Festival and stars César Vicente Romero (“Dolor y Gloria”), Xavi Caudevilla (“Los Protegidos AND”) and Carlos Scholz (“Awareness”). The story follows three young men – Honorio, Rafa and Vicente – who set out from Sevilla to Torremolinos in search of adventure, freedom and their first romantic encounters with Swedish tourists.

“Always fascinated by the impact of tourism in Málaga and the stories my parents, uncles and grandparents told about those years, I wanted to narrate that cultural revolution through the eyes of youth discovering a whole new world for the first time,” says director Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo.

Shot with a realist style, the film explores cultural contrasts and shared humanity through humor and warm-hearted storytelling. It’s a co-production between Antonio P. Pérez at Spal Films, Vaca Films (“Cell 211”), Volf Entertainment and various Spanish cultural institutions, including ICAA, broadcaster RTVE and the Junta de Andalucía.

Worldwide sales are being handled by FilmSharks, with Filmax set to distribute the film in Spanish cinemas from June 20.

Federico Pascua of FilmSharks praised the project: One of Spain’s most successful box office directors shows his relevance in the market with his latest trailer.”

With its feel-good tone and sharp social commentary, “Vírgenes” looks poised to become a summer favorite of Spanish audiences and perhaps those further abroad.
