Alejandro Garnacho has insisted he is content at Manchester United despite rumours of interest from Chelsea and Napoli. The winger, who United are reportedly only willing to sell for a hefty £65million, admitted that adapting to manager Ruben Amorim’s new system and demands has been challenging.
He revealed his struggle with Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, which sees him in a more central attacking role rather than his preferred position on the wing. “As a footballer, you’re always going to listen and hear some rumours about the future,” said Garnacho. “But I have a contract here until 2028, so I’m happy here.”
“Obviously we all have to work hard to be in the squad and then I have to train well every day and be available for all the games. I think it’s difficult for everyone when, in the middle of the season, a new manager comes in and we change the formation.
“But we just need to follow the rules and I try to improve every day. Obviously, the manager knows the characteristics of the players. You can see in the games, too many times I play wide on the wing and the wing back is coming inside.
“It’s a little bit hard, but it’s just the mentality. My first two months, November and December, were very difficult for me, but my mentality is to keep working, keep trying and show to the manager and staff I have to play.”
United have no intention of allowing captain Bruno Fernandes to depart despite interest in his services from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, according to Amorim.
The manager stated: “He’s a top player and we need the top players. He’s a leader, he’s the captain, so he’s really important.”
“It’s normal that there are a lot of clubs that want a player like Bruno. But we want to keep the best players and Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world. So our idea didn’t change – we want Bruno here.”
