Bruno Fernandes could be the target for a big-money offer from Al-Hilal this summer, but Manchester United have no intention of selling their captain.
The Saudi Pro League club have the funds for a star signing after Mohamed Salah decided to stay at Liverpool, and reports in the Middle East claim that Fernandes’ representatives held talks with Al-Hilal on Monday.
It’s understood there was initial contact between the two camps last year before Fernandes signed a new contract at United until 2027 with the option of a 12-month extension.
The 30-year-old playmaker has been United’s outstanding performer again this season with 19 goals and 18 assists so far. He is one of the few players the club would not be open to selling this summer as they look to rebuild under Ruben Amorim.
But United sources said on Monday night there has been no formal offer from Al-Hilal and they would not want to sell Fernandes if a bid comes in.
In March, Amorim rejected the possibility of his talisman joining Real Madrid at the end of the season, saying: ‘No, it’s not going to happen. He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him!
Saudi side Al-Hilal are lining up a big-money swoop for Bruno Fernandes this summer
But United have no intention of selling their captain even if they receive an offer
No formal bid has been received and Fernandes is one of a few players the club want to keep
‘I want Bruno here because we want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players to continue with us. He’s 30, but he’s still so young, because he plays 55 games every season.
‘Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 at least, so he’s the type of player we want here and he’s not going anywhere.’
One of the big four clubs in the SPL, Al-Hilal are in the market for a marquee player after missing out on Salah.
They want to sign a big name before the Club World Cup this summer, but are currently focussed on appointing a new coach to replace Jorge Jesus who left at the weekend.
