Rising pop artist Addison Rae has released the fourth song off her incoming debut, “Headphones On,” via Columbia Records. Co-written and produced by Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd, “Headphones,” like the album’s other singles, was released alongside a music video filmed in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Directed by Mitch Ryan, the visual begins with Rae daydreaming while grocery shopping, and with her “Headphones On,” she imagines herself frolicking in the countryside of Iceland. Lyrically, the song captures Rae lamenting, “Wish my mom and dad could have been in lovе.” And in the pre-chorus, she reaches acceptance: “You can’t fix what has already been broken/You just have to surrender to the moment.”
The song arrives shortly after Rae came out as a guest for Arca’s Coachella set on April 13, where the duo performed “Arcamarine,” the Venezuelan artist and producer’s take on Rae’s “Aquamarine.” During her appearance, Rae flashed her underwear to the audience and revealed the date “June 6,” which is expectedly the release date of her debut LP.
“Headphones” is the first release under Addison’s new publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. She signed with Columbia Records in 2024 and released her first single under the label, “Diet Pepsi,” in October. The song became her first Hot 100 breakthrough, debuting at No. 86 on the Sept. 21-dated chart and peaking at No. 54. She followed “Diet Pepsi” with “Aquamarine” and “High Fashion,” all of which were also produced by Kloser and Anderfjärd.
Rae previously released a five song EP titled “AR,” including a feature from Charli xcx. Rae also appears on a remix of “Von Dutch,” a single off Charli’s “Brat” album.
