Prolific Japanese genre filmmaker Takashi Miike is behind a new movie that will see British singer Charli xcx take a role alongside producing it as well via her production banner, Studio365.
Variety has revealed the singer and famed filmmaker are teaming up on an untitled project, which will mark her second big film role after partnering with A24 on “The Moment.” That other Charli xcx project comes from Scottish filmmaker Aidan Zamiri, who wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes.

While we’re in the dark about what this Miike project is going to be about, it is said to have a script penned by Ross Evans, who recently tackled “How To Save A Marriage,” which is being directed by Zoë Kravitz (“Blink Twice”) and produced by Robert Pattinson at Sony Pictures (the two previously working together on “The Batman” films from Matt Reeves).
Miike, having directed a gargantuan number of films in Japan, has over 100 credits that include genre darlings such as “Audition,” “13 Assassins,” “Blade of The Immortal,” “Itchi The Killer,” a remake of the drama “Hara-Kiri,” and the Yakuza romance flick “First Love.” The filmmaker is well-known for moving between extreme tones, dabbling in both violent, mature horror and samurai films alongside more family-friendly projects like the courtroom video game adaptation “Ace Attorney” and “Ninja Kids!!!.”

Previously, there had been reports that Charli xcx was in the mix to play the White Witch in Greta Gerwig‘s “Narnia” film as the role went to Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”), but it’s hard to be upset losing that part if you’re going to end up working with one of the biggest directors in Japan’s film industry.
