Halle Berry Wears Dress With Train Amid Cannes New Rule

Halle Berry reinterpreted the Cannes 2025 dress code at the red carpet of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, sporting a dress that carries a long train. Festival authorities recently implemented the new dress code guidelines in an official charter, prohibiting nudity for “decency reasons” and voluminous gowns with long trains that impede guest movement and complicate theater seating arrangements.

Oscar winner Halle Berry donned a black and pink Celia Kritharioti number, which included a long train, at the Cannes 2025 on May 14. She chose the stunning dress for the red carpet of the upcoming movie, Mission: Impossible — The Final. It is not clear if the 58-year-old star broke the Cannes 2025 dress code, as she was present at the event.

Berry is currently serving as a member of the official Cannes Film Festival Jury committee. Days before, she revealed at the jury press conference that she had to change her day 1 look to abide by the new dress code rules.

The Primetime Emmy-winning actress noted, “I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train.” She added, “I had to make a pivot. But the nudity part I do think is probably also a good rule.”

Instead of the Gourav Gupta number, Halle Berry wore a black and white striped Jacquemus gown at the opening ceremony. However, her subsequent Celia Kritharioti creation at the Mission Impossible film premiere raised questions about her compliance with the festival’s new dress code restrictions.

Along with Berry, netizens noticed several other celebrities who wore “voluminous dresses” for their Cannes red carpet appearances. Heidi Klum wore a pink Elie Saab Haute Couture dress with a decent-sized train on one of the red carpets.

As per the official charter of the Cannes Film Festival, the new dress codes are mandatory for the red carpet and other areas. The committee stated, “The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.” The charter also included the rules for appropriate footwear. It noted, “Elegant shoes and sandals with or without a heel” are acceptable.
