Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has named the four main characters who will be “big asset builders” of the DCU.
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially kicked off in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. Next up is Gunn’s Superman movie in July before Peacemaker Season 2 then premieres in August.
Who are the four main characters of the DCU?
During a Warner Bros. Discovery Q1 earnings call, Zaslav, per ComicBookMovie, said that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl will be the four main characters of the DCU.
“It’s important for us to be able to sell our content to third parties [but] as we look at our titles, there are many that are really just for Warner Bros,” Zaslav said. “When you look at the major characters with — that James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing with their 10-year plan around DC, that is to build asset value for us globally everywhere in the world, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Supergirl. So those are — we look at those as big asset builders and big differentiators.”
This isn’t terribly surprising given that Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are considered to be the Trinity of DC Comics, though Supergirl’s inclusion suggests that her upcoming movie will only be the start of Kara’s DCU journey. That film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is being directed by Craig Gillespie and will see Milly Alcock play the titular role. It will be released in United States theaters on June 26, 2026.
It’s not yet clear when Batman or Wonder Woman will make their official, live-action DCU debut. Batman could potentially show up in the Clayface movie dated for 2026, while a The Brave and The Bold movie featuring the Dark Knight is also in the works but does not yet have a release date.
There is also a Wonder Woman show titled Paradise Lost in the works that will be set on Themyscira; however, it will take place before Diana Prince’s birth, and it’s unclear if the character will appear in the series, which also does not have a premiere date at this time.
