Mikey Madison has found her first leading movie role following her Best Actress Oscar win for Anora.
Madison recently won an Oscar for her performance in Sean Baker’s Anora. Prior to that, she starred in 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 2022’s Scream, among other titles.
Now, Madison will star in a new movie directed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría titled Reptilia.
What do we know about Mikey Madison’s new movie?
“Reptilia is about a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade,” the official synopsis reads.
The film will also star Kirsten Dunst, known for playing Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Dunst was also recently nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as Rose Gordon in Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog, which was released in 2021.
Reptilia is based on a script by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman. Landes Echavarría also serves as a producer under his A Stela Cine banner alongside PASTEL (Moonlight, Aftersun), Imperative Entertainment (Killers of the Flower Moon, Triangle of Sadness), and AF Films. Black Bear is providing the financing.
Production on Reptilia is expected to begin this coming fall. The movie will be introduced to international buyers at the Cannes Market by Charades, while UTA Independent Film Group and 30WEST are co-handling the United States distribution rights.
Landes Echavarría made his directorial debut in 2007 with a documentary titled Cocalero, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He followed that up with Porfirio in 2011 before he then made Monos in 2019. Monos, which stars Julianne Nicholson and Moisés Arias, also premiered at Sundance and was the official Colombian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
A release date for Reptilia has not yet been set.
