Thunderbolts* & Walmart Have Something in Common

Walmart recently shared their take on the asterisk symbol in the title for Marvel’s Thunderbolts*. The asterisk in the title immediately caught the attention of fans when the official name of the film was first announced. Marvel Studios has since unwrapped the mystery behind the asterisk in the title following the movie’s release.

With Thunderbolts* currently generating buzz in theaters around the globe, Walmart’s recent nod to the movie has caught fans’ attention.

The popular retail chain recently took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared an image that was a mix of their logo and the asterisk symbol used in Thunderbolts*. The image highlights the similarity between them, giving a new meaning to the asterisk. They wrote, “Wait a minute…”

In the comments, many users on the platform commented on the similarity with one writing, “WALMART is revealing its true colors what?! It’s always been black and yellow this entire time?! THE MASK REVEALED :O.”

Another user wrote, “Walmart basically when they unleash they’re [sic] dark side,” and shared a GIF of Lewis Pullman’s Bob from Thunderbolts* transitioning into the Void. To this, Walmart replied, “Plot twist!”

A third user asked, “What does this mean?!” In their reply, the Walmart account suggested that the brand will reveal some more news about the image soon and wrote, “Something new and exciting is coming.”

Some users also urged Walmart to change their name as the asterisk originally meant a name change for the Thunderbolts team. At the end of the movie, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina introduces the team as the New Avengers, and the title of the movie then changes. The meaning of the asterisk was revealed by Marvel just a few days after the movie made its big-screen debut with a poster change.

While speaking about the title with The NY Times, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier said, “It felt like, if Val is also trying to pull a switcheroo and sell the New Avengers to the world, we could do that, too. It feels like this was a plan, and we built up to it.”
