What Breed of Cats Does Taylor Swift Have? Explained

Taylor Swift, the global superstar who’s as passionate about cat breeds as she is about chart-topping hits, dotes on her feline trio: Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button. Just like her deeply personal discography, her cats also have unique naming stories and equally quirky personalities. As such, fans who are eager to get some news of Taylor Swift now wish to learn more about her pets.

So, here’ everything Swifties need to know about the singer’s three feline companions and their stories.

What kinds of cat breeds does Taylor Swift have?

The pop sensation is a proud cat mother, whose three feline friends belong to different breeds.

Taylor Swift’s first cat, Meredith Grey, is a Scottish Fold who was named after the iconic Grey’s Anatomy character. Parallel to the “Anti-Hero” singer’s global stardom, Meredith gained her own fandom. Eagle-eyed Swifties noticed a picture of Swift’s cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson, on Ryan Reynolds’ t-shirt in Deadpool 2. Moreover, the Scottish Fold has appeared alongside Benson in Swift’s “Me!” music video.

Meanwhile, the “Mirrorball” crooner’s second cat, Olivia Benson, is another Scottish Fold. The cat was named after Mariska Hargitay’s character on Law & Order: SVU. What’s interesting is that Hargitay also paid tribute to Swift’s fangirl moment when she adopted a cat.

The actress introduced her cat, Karma, through Instagram, whose name is a reference to the eponymous song from Taylor Swift’s 2022 album, Midnights. The song features the lyrics, “Karma is a cat purring in my lap ’cause it loves me.” The singer also commented on Hargitay’s Instagram post, gushing, “Are you serious?! Nothing has ever come more full circle. LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! (cat emoji)”

On the other hand, the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker’s third cat, Benjamin Button, came into her life in 2019. Swift adopted the Ragdoll from the set of her music video, “Me!” where her other two cats were also present. In an Instagram Live session with Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie, who collaborated with her on the song, she shared the touching adoption story of Benjamin.

The Grammy winner revealed, “He was just a cute kitten who didn’t have a home. As per Swift, she felt an instant connection with Benjamin. The singer admitted that the moment she held the cat, she knew that he was coming home with her. The singer joked, “I looked at Brendon and he’s like, ‘You’re going to get the cat, aren’t you?’” (via People)

As the newest addition to Taylor Swift’s family, Benjamin Button also got his due exposure in Time Magazine. Besides, the cute Ragdoll posed with the singer for the 2023 Time Person of the Year feature story.
