CBS Exec on Why The Equalizer & 2 FBI Shows Were Canceled

In a surprising turn of events, CBS has officially canceled three shows on its roster, including The Equalizer, FBI: Most Wanted, and FBI: International. With all the abandoned franchises boasting significant viewership counts, fans have understandably asked questions around the unexpected scrapping of their favorite series. To provide an explanation, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach has come out to cite the reason behind the axing of the said shows.

Amy Reisenbach on The Equalizer and FBI shows getting canceled

In a recent discussion, the CBS executive noted that the network decided to cancel The Equalizer and the two FBI editions primarily due to the network’s packed schedule, among other factors.

While talking to reporters this Wednesday, Amy Reisenbach clarified why CBS decided not to include the aforementioned shows in their 2025-26 slate of eight new and 18 returning series. “It’s not easy to end shows, and we had a lot of options this year,” she stated, as per Deadline.

Reisenbach further added, “The schedule is really full and so we always have to look at all of our shows, look at the aggregate information, the creative of where they are in their life cycle, what the finances look like, what the ratings are, and then we make those tough decisions.”

In the wake of their cancelation, The Equalizer and FBI: Most Wanted will miss out on a sixth season, while FBI: International will end on its fourth installment. The Queen Latifah-led The Equalizer has already aired its final episode, doing so on Sunday, May 4, 2025. On the other hand, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International will premiere their series finale on May 20.

Amy Reisenbach added further context to CBS’ decision to cancel The Equalizer and two FBI spin-offs by saying, “We have to be fiscally responsible and ultimately, those deals and the shows just weren’t penciling out for us from an economic perspective.”

However, the President of CBS Entertainment also expressed excitement for CBS’ upcoming collaboration with the co-creator of the FBI franchise, Dick Wolf, over the CIA series. She remarked, “We love working with Dick Wolf and we’re so excited to bring CIA onto the schedule. We’re excited to launch a new two-hour block next season.”
