Abby Wambach met her wife, Glennon Doyle, in 2016 in Chicago, during the launch event of the latter’s book, Love Warrior. At the time, the author was still married to her former spouse, Craig Melton, while Wambach was still with her ex-wife, Sarah Huffman.
During their joint appearance at the What’s Her Story With Sam & Amy podcast in 2020, Wambach and Doyle explained how they experienced love at first sight, with Wambach even stating, “I think my heart and my soul knew way, way sooner than my brain.”
Soon afterward, Doyle and Wambach separated from their respective former partners. The couple went public with their romance in November 2016 and confirmed their engagement months later, on February 18, 2017, via a Facebook post.
The pair ultimately exchanged wedding vows on May 14, 2017, with their friends and family bearing witness to the endearing moment. While they don’t have any children of their own, Doyle has three kids from her previous marriage that she co-parents with her ex-husband.
