The first reactions to Bring Her Back, the new A24 horror movie from Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou, are overwhelmingly positive.
Bring Her Back opens in United States theaters later this month. With the screenplay coming from Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, it stars Sally Hawkins, Billy Barrat, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, and more.
“A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother,” the official synopsis for the movie reads.
What are people saying about Bring Her Back?
With Bring Her Back having now screened for some lucky audiences, people on social media are praising the movie for its originality and disturbing imagery, among other things.
DiscussingFilm’s Andrew J. Salazar wrote, “Bring Her Back is very hard to watch at times, both due to far-out gore and the sheer emotion on screen. What at first seems like just another take on grief soon evolves into a visceral reflection on family. Danny & Michael Philippou are 2/2 on creating the best horror around.”
The Hashtag Show’s Junior Felix said, “Bring Her Back is one of the most original horror films I’ve seen in years. The film is heavy, frightening and just plain bonkers. It’s a slow burn but trust me there are scenes that will have squirming in your seat and you’ll leave the theater uncomfortable. Damn.”
FandomWire’s Sean Boelman commented, “Bring Her Back is, in some ways, your typical indie horror about grief/trauma. However, it is one of the most disturbingly executed horror films I have seen in years. I don’t often get squeamish in movies, but this one got me… not once but twice. A massive surprise.”

BRING HER BACK – I need a hug after that.
A lot of horror films use grief as a metaphor, but this one says fuck all that and drowns you in the sad, brutal reality of loss – then somehow turns it into a good time at the movies.
Gnarly, cathartic, and beautifully filmed. pic.twitter.com/tqRY9MSk3B— patrick. (@imPatrickT) May 7, 2025
Holy shit. BRING HER BACK is incredibly dread inducing. A film that properly explores grief and the limits it will push us to. Danny and Michael Philippou bring to life some of the most haunting (and sad) imagery I’ve seen in recent memory.

Extremely grateful that I got to see a screening for #bringherback with @gigimurakami murakami! We even got to meet the directors and leave some gifts behind! I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s a really solid film. I loved Talk To Me and Bring Her Back is a new… pic.twitter.com/Tl0Uown0Ow

Bring Her Back is a devastating & heartbreaking look at grief. It goes way harder than I expected – in a good way. It’s disturbing, disgusting & thoroughly entertaining. As a parent there’s a lot going through my mind right now. I dug it, but it’s a LOT to take in. #BringHerBack pic.twitter.com/iuIv6u91ul
