Where Is Javaris Crittenton Now?

Netflix’s new documentary Untold: Shooting Guards reveals the intertwined fates of basketball players Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton. The new project exposes how the fates of these promising NBA talents collided in a locker room prank. Crittenton paid a hefty price following the locker room gun incident that started a chain of events that derailed his career, as the former NBA star also ended up facing more serious legal troubles later. He was convicted of manslaughter in 2015 and sentenced to 23 years in jail. In the courtroom, Crittenton apologized for his actions and confessed to making a “mistake.”

Here, we take a look at what exactly happened and where Javaris Crittenton is now.

What happened to Javaris Crittenton from Netflix’s Untold: Shooting Guards

Javaris Crittenton emerged as a promising new NBA talent after becoming the Los Angeles Lakers’ 19th pick in the 2007 NBA draft. Crittenton joined the Lakers but was later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008 and joined the Washington Wizards shortly after.

While playing for the Wizards, the basketball pro got involved in a locker room incident with teammate Gilbert Arenas. Reports stated that both players pointed guns at each other during an argument in a locker room on Christmas Eve over a gambling debt.

The involvement of guns during their heated argument led to an investigation, and both players were suspended briefly. Later, Arenas rejoined the Wizards. In September 2010, Crittenton joined the Charlotte Bobcats team on a non-guaranteed contract. However, Crittenton’s NBA career was cut short within a year, and the player was arrested on manslaughter charges for the accidental killing of Julian Jones in 2011 while trying to shoot a person who apparently robbed him.
