Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and The Old Guard star Matthias Schoenaerts have officially signed on for the leading roles in Miramax’s newest World War II thriller, Ruin. The project hails from live-action Mulan filmmaker Niki Caro, who is no stranger to the genre after previously directing Jessica Chastain in The Zookeeper’s Wife movie.
Gadot most recently portrayed the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action Snow White movie, which wasn’t able to lived up to box office expectations. The Rachel Zegler-led remake only received a worldwide gross of $200 million against a reported budget of around $240-270 million. At the moment, Gadot is currently in production for Amazon MGM Studios’ action thriller The Runner. She is also currently attached to star in the upcoming drama In the Hand of Dante with Dune stars Oscar Isaac and Jason Momoa.
What is Ruin about?
“Set post-WWII Germany, the film follows a recently released camp prisoner (Gadot), who is forced to make an unlikely alliance with a German soldier (Schoenaerts) in a mutual quest to exact revenge on a Nazi SS squad,” reads the synopsis.
Caro will be directing and producing Ruin from screenplay written by Eternals scribes Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo. In addition to leading the cast, Gadot has also boarded the project as a producer, along with Jaron Varsano through their Pilot Wave Motion Pictures. It will be executive produced by Ludascripts’ Gillian Hormel, Mary Aloe for Aloe Entertainment, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo, with Evan Powell overseeing the project for MadRiver.
