The Bad Lieutenant 3 cast is official. Per Deadline, Takashi Miike will direct Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo and feature Lily James in a starring role. Neon is the studio, and production is looking to start this month.
Who is in the Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo cast?
James (Pam & Tommy) headlines the cast, which also includes Shun Oguri (Godzilla v. Kong) and former WWE Women’s Champion Liv Morgan (real name Gionna Daddio).
The official synopsis reads, “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo will follow the Bad Lieutenant (Oguri), a corrupt gambler in the Metropolitan Police Force, who finds himself thrown into a tangled case after an enigmatic FBI agent (James) arrives in Tokyo to investigate the disappearance of a politician’s daughter (Morgan). Meanwhile, a deviant killer operating in the yakuza underworld seems to be shadowing their moves.”
Miike will direct from a screenplay by Daisuke Tengan. The duo previously collaborated on Audition and 13 Assassins.
Neon will handle North American distribution and represent international sales at Cannes later this month.
Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo is a co-production between the U.S. and Japan. Jeremy Thomas, Sam Pressman, Naoaki Kitajima, and Misako Saka are producing. Executive producers include Tom Quinn, Yuzo Kuwahara, Tetsu Fujimura, Paula Paizes, Alainée Kent, Peter Watson, Ivan Kelava, Max Loeb, and Mike Apgar.
“Director Miike brings a fearless new vision to the Bad Lieutenant, a character defined by the auteur. Just as maestros Ferrara and Herzog delivered films as radically different as their own voices, Miike’s adaptation is unrelentingly wild and unique,” said Sam Pressman, CEO of Pressman Film. “To realize this next evolution now in Tokyo with Director Miike, Neon, and my father’s lifelong friend Jeremy Thomas — all true believers in the power of independent cinema — is both an honor and a dream come true.”
Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo is based on the IP first produced by Edward R. Pressman. Abel Ferrara directed 1992’s Bad Lieutenant, with Harvey Keitel in the titular role. In 2009, Werner Herzog helmed Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans starring Nicolas Cage.
