Priscilla Pointer passes away at 100, claims report

Priscilla Pointer, actress and mother of Amy Irving, has died at the age of 100.

Her son, writer-director David Irving, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she passed away on Monday at an assisted living facility in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Pointer appeared alongside Irving in several films including Carrie (1976), The Competition (1980), Micki + Maude (1984), Rumpelstiltskin (1987), and Carried Away (1996.) She also portrayed Rebecca Barnes Wentworth, the mother of Victoria Principal’s character on Dallas, during the show’s sixth season.

Her television credits include appearances on L.A. Law, The Rockford Files, Police Woman, Judging Amy, St. Elsewhere, McCloud, and ER. In film, she played the mother of lead characters in Blue Velvet (1986), Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), The Falcon and the Snowman (1985), and Nickelodeon (1976).

Pointer began her acting career on stage. She co-founded the San Francisco Actor’s Workshop in 1952 with her then-husband Jules Irving, Herbert Blau, and Beatrice Manley. She later performed with the Repertory Theater of Lincoln Center and debuted on Broadway in Danton’s Death in 1965.

Born in New York on May 18, 1924, Pointer was the daughter of artists Augusta and Kenneth Pointer. She married Jules Irving, who died in 1979, and later actor-producer Robert Symonds, who passed away in 2007.

Amy Irving posted on Instagram that her mother died “peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100, hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs.” Survivors include her daughters Amy and Katie Irving, son David Irving, and eight grandchildren.
