Actress Heather Graham recently reflected on being child-free and the impact it had on her life. Over the years, Graham has dated her Diggstown co-star James Woods, rocker Adam Ant, Israeli screenwriter Yaniv Raz, and late actor Heath Ledger. At present, she is reportedly in a relationship with snowboarder John de Neufville.
Heather Graham talks about not having kids
Graham stated that she felt happy “80% of the time” that she was child-free during an interview with The Guardian. “I guess I would say 80% of the time I feel glad I don’t have kids, and I feel free and really good about it, and maybe 20% of the time I wonder what would it be like. You just have to appreciate the life you have,” she explained.
The Swingers actress voiced her admiration for women who dare to go against societal norms and make individualistic decisions. “I do think it’s awesome now that more women are expressing their desire to not have kids,” Graham said, adding that it is often the “culture” around people that asserts that they need to have children. She asked, “But why? If you’re not being a people pleaser, what do you really want?”
Graham, 55, has been active as an actress since the ’80s. She has appeared in projects like License to Drive (1988), Six Degrees of Separation (1993), Boogie Nights, Bowfinger (1999), and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999).
Additionally, she played Annie Blackburn in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks and the 1992 feature prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. She also essayed the roles of Dr. Molly Clock on Scrubs, Diane Duran on Angie Tribeca, and Judalon Smyth on Law & Order True Crime.
This isn’t the first time that Graham has discussed her decision to be child-free with the media. Previously, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actress said she didn’t feel she was “missing anything” because she didn’t have any children. According to her, people are on “different paths” and must “embrace” the one they are on.
