Nathan Fielder took Paramount+ to task during the latest episode of The Rehearsal, mocking the streaming service for removing an episode of his satirical series Nathan For You.
What did Nathan Fielder say about Paramount+ removing the Nathan for You episode?
During the last episode of The Rehearsal recreated the moment that he learned that Paramount had removed an episode of Nathan For You from the series. Fielder recruits Alexander Leiss (who played “Fake Nathan” in the first season of the show) to play as Fielder writing a mock reply email to Paramount about the issue.
“I wrote an email to some contacts I had at Paramount, asking them why the episode was removed,” Fielder explains over voiceover (via EW). “The thing that made this tricky was, Paramount is currently airing a different series of mine, a scripted drama that hadn’t yet been renewed. How I spoke to them could have career repercussions.”
Fielder goes on to note that Paramount would confirm that the episode was removed, citing “sensitivities” as the main reason why, with Paramount+ Germany wanting to remove the episode due to discomfort with anything that has to due with antisemitism in the wake of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
The episode in question is the third episode of Season 3 of the Nathan For You, titled “Horseback Riding/Man Zone.” In it, Fielder attempts to start an outdoor apparel line called Summit Ice in an effort to raise awareness for the Holocaust after finding out that his favorite winter jacket’s maker, Taiga, had published a tribute to a man who is a Holocaust denier.
In the episode, Fielder — who is Jewish — recruits a rabbi to help design the logo for the brand. In typical Fielder fashion, the entire pitch is outlandish and is rejected promptly by store owners. Despite the failure, the idea of Summit Ice became an instant fan-favorite amongst those who watched the show, and the company (which is real) generated over $300,000 in its first eight weeks and continues to be available to this day.
