The Daredevil: Born Again directors have revealed the original opening for the MCU show prior to the creative overhaul.
Daredevil: Born Again comes from showrunner Dario Scardapane. Marvel originally tapped Matt Corman and Chris Ord as the head writers for the show; however, they were replaced in September 2023 following a creative overhaul of the series.
Initial directors Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd were still retained following the creative overhaul, while Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead came on board as lead directors.
What was the original opening for Daredevil: Born Again?
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the Daredevil: Born Again directing team recalled how the series was originally going to open during “the first round of shooting.”
Moorhead explained, “This shot used to open the show, I believe, and Matt was in the outfit. He then pulled off his mask, and he was just so unbelievably sad, crying, and all that. Then he dropped the mask, and that was the whole scene…It was supposed to be the last thing that happened after Foggy died, and it explained why he didn’t put the suit on for so long. But now we have a whole episode [101] about that.”
Nachmanoff added, “I was actually there that day. It was freezing cold. But the problem was that they kept trying to do it in a way that wasn’t feasible in one shot. So what you and Dario did in that [new first] episode needed to be done. There was a lot of time to think about it during the writers’ strike, and they realized that we needed a whole episode to transition. That’s what was really missing.”
All eight episodes of Marvel Studios‘ Daredevil: Born Again are now streaming on Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to premiere in March 2026, though an exact date has not yet been set.
