Paramount Plus’s new TV and movie releases for April 21–27, 2025, include two releases — the film The Return and the 40th season of the competitive reality series The Challenge.
The Return debuts on Paramount Plus on April 21, 2025. This film, based on Homer’s classic Greek tale Odyssey, is directed by Uberto Pasolini. Pasolini co-wrote the film’s script with John Collee and Edward Bond. Rather than showcasing Odysseus’ ten-year journey from Troy to Ithaca, the film explores its aftermath. It depicts Odysseus’ struggles to re-adapt to his home, which has changed drastically in the 20 years he was away. Complicating matters is Odysseus’ unrecognizable appearance, which troubles his near and dear ones.
Three-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes and Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche star in the lead roles of Odysseus and Penelope. Supporting cast members include Charlie Plummer’s Telemachus, Marwan Kenzari’s Antinous, Claudio Santamaria’s Eumeas, Angela Molina’s Eurycleia, Nikitas Tsakiroglou’s Laertes, Tom Rhys Harries’ Pisander, and Jamie Andrew Cutler’s Eurymachus.
April 23 then brings The Challenge Season 40: Battle of the Eras to Paramount Plus. This season consists of 21 episodes.
Jonathan Murray and Mary Ellis-Bunim created The Challenge. This is a reality series pitting cast members from past seasons of reality shows against each other. The contestants are put into two separate teams based on gender, first show appearance, and experience level — rookie or veteran. The two teams then compete against one another in a series of missions to win prizes and advance in the game.
